You can make your seminar presenting a project or standardization effort related to XML. If you wish to do a somewhat larger project, you can form a team and develop an application which you then present to the class. Topics:

1.    RosettaNet: electronic B-to-B commerce and standard vocabularies in electronics industry.

2.    Annotea: http://www.w3.org/2001/Annotea/ Project goals and current phase.

5.    Lydia's WEb store -case study from Hunter's book, including XML database, XSL transformations for updating it from different sources and for creating HTML output.

6.    Discussion group system from Deitel (requires programming in Java).

7.    Your own application where a program/ script (XSLT, Javascript, php or Java) updates an XML file.

8. About the future of the semantic Web.

9. Extended project where the application area can be chosen i. e. a video rental store, updating sports match/ competition results to Web, or keeping a list of current cultural events (concerts, cinema) on the Web. The technical solution:

• XML or SQL database
• incoming XML updates in several formats,
• possibly an entry form,
• updated HTML page,
• XSL transformations for the above,
• XSL:FO output as PDF (print listing or catalog or invoice..)
